Norton Antivirus 2008: Multifaceted Program for System Protection

Norton Antivirus 2008, since its inception, has become popular among most users. With various utilities, it has become one of the most sought after antivirus application currently available in the market. It is the most extensively used threat-removal tool developed by Symantec Corporation. It constantly detects and removes spyware, viruses, adware, and other possible security risks. The utility has also been incorporated as a part of Norton System Works and Norton Internet Security, though it is sold in the market as a standalone product.

SONAR

Norton Antivirus 2008 was presented to the world on August 28, 2007. It includes new feature supplemented to the previously existing features such as SONAR (Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response) technology, which automatically detects potential malicious code before the availability of traditional virus definitions. SONAR usually works by monitoring the behavior of the programs rather than searching for signatures in them.

Browser Defender

Norton Antivirus 2008 also has a Browser Defender application. It helps in protecting your web browser from possible threats of un-patched exploits and downloads. It also includes Home Network Security Status that displays its status to all computers that are connected to your network along with One-Click Support and enhanced performance, which is almost 60% faster than the previous version (Norton Antivirus 2007).

Conventional Features

Apart from the above features, it automatically detects, blocks and deletes viruses, malware, spyware, worms and rootkits. Some of its important features include Rootkit (that steals personal data) Protection (finds and removes potential hidden threats from the operating system), Worm Protection (blocks viruses, worms and spyware without any authenticated and specific signatures), instant messaging and e-mail scanning (detects and blocks attachments that are infected with spam) and Full System Scan.

This total scanning or ‘deep scan’ is very useful in removing spyware, existing viruses and other insidious threats from the system. Again, you can easily check security settings from Norton Protection Center.

Comprehensive Virus Definition file

Norton Live Update equips Norton Antivirus 2008 with regular updates on virus definition. Till November 20, 2007, to detect viruses, a total of almost 73,759 virus definition has been incorporated into the system. For receiving updates on virus definition, a valid subscription of the product is needed; the subscription validity for one year is included on purchase of the antivirus.

When the subscription expires, the subscriber can still enjoy free program updates. However without renewing their subscription, there will be no virus definition updates.

Multifaceted Tool

Norton Antivirus 2008 is the most refined and the most modern tool that can shield your system from various viruses and spyware. It includes the modern technology with multifaceted pro-active scanning that helps in detecting and eliminating viruses and malware. Norton Antivirus 2008 shows a dazzling flexibility in withstanding all the threats that are posed to our system by the viruses.

Besides, the space that it takes is comparatively very less in comparison to other antivirus software. Norton Antivirus 2008 is hailed as one of the most promising antivirus in the field of antivirus program. It has revolutionized the computer security with its recent techniques and customer satisfaction.
